Our environment supports our nutrition (often more than we realise).
When we think of nutrition, we often think about what is on our plate. The truth is - good nutrition involves a lot more than what is on the plate. Having our environment set up to support us is important.
Behaviour science shows that when we have more friction with the behaviours we want to be doing less and less friction with the behaviours we want to do more of - the more likely we can change behaviour.
If you know that certain foods make you feel better and more nourished - we want our environment set up to support that. Having things in the fridge and pantry, prepped, planned. With the foods that maybe don't serve us as well - creating a little more friction with these can be helpful.
Friction increases the cognitive energy required to do a thing. We have a limited amount of this energy and so having our environment support us can be a way to freee up some of that cognitive energy.
Here is a tool that can help you assess how well your kitchen is supporting you.
Let me know what you think!
